Council Assets

Staplefield Pavilion and Common

The Parish Council own Staplefield Common, the cricket facility (including pitch, pavilion and nets) and are responsible for the Upper Common. The maintenance of Staplefield Common and the Upper Common is the responsibility of the Parish Council, this includes all grounds maintenance, pitch maintenance and tree work.  The council conduct a tree survey every 2 years and carry out work accordingly based on these findings.  Trees are assessed in risk categories which not only depends on the state of the tree but location for health and safety reasons.  Where possible the Council will preserve and maintain trees, however if required they also have to remove those trees that pose a risk.

The pavilion is fully funded by the Parish Council.  All income from the hire of the pavilion and common contributes towards the running costs of the pavilion with the shortfall being made up from the Parish Council precept money.  The precept is collected from all 5 wards within our Parish, these being Staplefield, Ansty, Brook Street & Bolnore, Rocky Lane North and Roky Lane South.

In the last year, the focus has been on the park and pavilion .  The park refurb has already begun, and the pavilion is imminent with the focus over the last year being on preparing it for a much needed upgrade.  In order to secure the Parish Council asset and satisfy both the Parish Council insurance requirements and compliance needs, many things have required attention.

Locks - Additional locks have need to be added until the compliant locks can be implemented as part of the refurbishment.

Electrics - The toilets and pavilion are currently on separate electrical circuits and unfortunately, the toilet block failed the electrical test.  This meant the closure of everything that relied solely on this supply.  Fortunately, we were able to continue with one toilet and a sink until the end of the last cricket season.

The following were all overdue and have now been completed…PAT tests, Legionnaires checks and Asbestos testing.

Other areas that need attention are the flooring, (currently a trip hazard), the outside decking area, ground in front of the pavilion (both cracked and in need of repair) and the plumbing needs an overhaul.

The Parish Council is currently in the process of undertaking the refurbishment and this is solely being funded by the Parish Council.  2 grants have been applied for and we have yet to hear if they have been successful.  The aim is to complete the refurbishment by the end of Spring and in time to re-open for the cricket season.  The pavilion is unable to open in its current condition.
